Amazon, Hulu Buy Jacob Batalon’s Comedy Drama ‘Reginald The Vampire’
Amazon and Hulu have embarked on Syfy’s comedy-drama “Reginald the Vampire,” starring “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star Jacob Batalon.
Streamers have picked up the show produced by Great Pacific Media for select territories, while Cineflix Rights has joined us as an international distributor and will pick up the 10-episode series at next month’s MipTV Market in Cannes.
Hulu acquired US second-window rights to the series – co-produced with Modern Story, December Films and Cineflix Studios – while Amazon picked up streaming rights in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The show is in its final week of filming and is set to air this summer on Syfy.
Based on the “Fat Vampire” novels by Johnny B. Truant, the comedy-tinged drama stars Batalon as Reginald, a newly transformed vampire who crashes into a world populated by handsome, fit, and conceited vampires. New to the scene, he must overcome various obstacles such as a boss’s bully, falling in love with a human girl he can’t have, and a vampire boss who wants him dead. Luckily, Reginald discovers he has a few powers of his own.
Batalon stars as Peter Parker’s best friend, Ned Leeds, in recent Tom Holland-led installments of the Spider-Man franchise, which topped the worldwide box office in 2021. “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” released in December, has so far grossed $1.8 billion worldwide.
