Among us gets a VR version

Social deception game Among us gets a virtual reality adaptation. The VR Edition will launch on Meta Quest, PlayStation VR, and SteamVR, and it’s being developed by Schell Games, the creators of the popular I expect you to die series. There is no release date for the game, but a trailer debuted at the Game Awards 2021.
The VR version of Among us is a 3D first-person experience instead of a 2D third-person experience, but it retains the “core mechanics” of the original multiplayer game from developer Innersloth. The short trailer, seen above, shows a player interacting with a keyboard in a 3D cartoon room before being attacked by another teammate who is (presumably) a sinister impostor.
Among us previously launched for PC and mobile platforms in 2018, as well as for Nintendo Switch consoles in late 2020. Its non-VR version will also be released for Xbox and PlayStation on December 14. The VR adaptation is part of a partnership with consultancy firm Robot Teddy, which is overseeing the game’s move to new platforms.
Among us was inspired by social deduction games like Mafia Where werewolf, where a large group of players must guess the identity of a dangerous hidden threat. This won’t be the first time the mechanics have played out in VR, as Ubisoft has released a version of the formula known as Werewolves inside in 2016. (The game was later adapted into a 2021 horror comedy.) But Among us inspired a distinct fan base who could follow him in VR.
