Bizarre pirate-themed romantic comedy marks company theater debut
Wellington-based new theater company Comedy Gold has announced its debut show, When Booty Calls.
A new Wellington theater company debuts next month with a bizarre pirate-themed romantic comedy.
When the booty calls will take place over five nights at BATS from June 29 to July 3. It marks the premiere of the new company Golden comedy.
The company describes itself as focusing on creating “good old school comedy without any of these ‘morals’ or ‘deeper meanings’.”

Her BATS debut comes after a successful development season with physical comedy and fight choreography.
James Wenley, director of the Theater of Love company, described the show as having “superb comedic timing.” “It also intelligently deploys and subverts conventions of the pirate genre, with a welcome centering of two queer female pirate pirates,” he said.
It features performances by Nina Hogg and Phoebe Caldeiro and presents Ella Wells to the audience. Directed by Tom Aitcheson and Troy Etherington, the show features production design by Tabitha Rowell.
