The film directed by Laura Terruso (Work it) is inspired by the life of Maniscalco and his relationship with his father. He sees Sebastian telling his old-school Italian immigrant father Salvo (De Niro) that he is going to propose to his all-American girlfriend, Salvo insisting on spending a weekend with his parents tony. Although cultures clash and it seems the two families have nothing in common, by the end of the weekend they will be the famiglia.
As previously announced, Bibb plays Sebastian’s on-screen fiancée, Ellie. Dier and Holm will play his brothers, Doug and Lucky Collins, with Rasche as their father, Bill.
Maniscalco wrote the film with Austen Earl. Chris Weitz of Depth of Field, Paul Weitz and Andrew Miano produce alongside Judi Marmel, with Dan Balgoyen of Depth of Field in production. James Myers and Chelsea Kujawa are overseeing the studio project.
Dier is best known for his long run as Michael Cordero Jr. in The CW’s Joan the Virgin. He also starred in the Goldberg derivative series Schooled, and will then appear in Mimi Cave’s film Costs opposite Daisy Edgar-Jones and Sebastian Stan. He is represented by Gersh and Red Management.
Holm is best known as the co-creator, writer and star of workaholics, which aired on Comedy Central for seven seasons. He currently hosts the podcast It is important with his companion workaholics creators, and will be the next star of Shonda Rhimes’ Netflix miniseries Invent Anna, opposite Julia Garner and Anna Chlumsky. He is replaced by CAA, Avalon Management and Yorn, Barnes, Levine.
Rasche is known for his regular role on the series as Waystar Royco’s Karl Muller on HBO. Succession. The actor also recently starred in the feature film The good house, opposite Sigourney Weaver, and recurring on HBO Veep. He is with Innovative Artists, Liebman Entertainment and Schreck Rose Dapello.
