CBS series “ Good Sam ”, “ Smallwood ” commissions: Sophia Bush, Pete Holmes
CBS is betting on a few familiar faces next season: Eye Network has placed series orders for medical drama Good Sam, with Sophia Bush and a bowling comedy Smallwood, with Pete Holmes, TVLine learned.
Good Sam Bush stars (Chicago PD) as a talented but stifled surgeon who “embraces her leadership role after her famous and pompous boss falls into a coma,” according to the official description. “When he wakes up and wants to resume surgery, however, it falls to him to oversee this bossy blowhard who has never recognized his talents – and also happens to be his father.
The supporting cast includes Jason Isaacs (Star Trek: Discovery) as the pompous father / boss of the character Bush, alongside Edwin Hodge (Mayas MC), Skye P. Marshall (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Michael Stahl-David (Almost family). Katie Wech (Star, Rizzoli and islands) serves as creator and also executive producer, with Jane the Virgin creator Jennie Snyder Urman.
Smallwood is a multi-camera sitcom that stars the comic Holmes (Crashing) as a guy who is laid off from the GM plant assembly line and decides to fulfill his dream of becoming a professional bowler. (It’s based on the real life of professional bowler Tom Smallwood.) The supporting cast includes Chi McBride (Hawaii 5-0) and Katie Lowes (Scandal). Mark Gross (Man with a plan) is the creator and EP.
The two shows come together CSI: Vegas, FBI: International, NCIS: Hawaii and Ghosts among the new series coming to CBS next season. (Several bubble shows, like The SEAL team and All stand up, have yet to learn of their fate.)
