Danger! Mayim Bialik’s sitcom Call Me Kat gets a major change as it fights for a permanent gig on a game show
DANGER! Host Mayim Bialik’s sitcom Call Me Kat began undergoing major changes ahead of its third season.
The changes come as the 46-year-old actress continues to fight for the game show’s permanent gig.
Fox recently announced that Call Me Kat Season 3 will premiere in the fall, unlike its normal debut slot during its mid-season lineup.
Now, Deadline has reported another change for the show.
The sitcom will have a new set of showrunners for the new season.
Jim Patterson and Maria Ferrari take over, according to the outlet.
The former has previously worked on shows like B Positive, The Ranch and Mike & Molly.
The latter, meanwhile, reunites with Mayim on this show, as Maria had worked as an executive producer on the star’s latest sitcom, the beloved The Big Bang Theory.
Alissa Neubauer was the showrunner for season 2, while Darlene Hunt was the lead role for season 1 of the series.
Danger! fans have speculated that Mayim’s sitcom might be a reason why she might not get the hosting job over Ken Jennings.
Fans on Reddit have pointed out that Call Me Kat has moved to the fall schedule, which is usually reserved for the most popular shows and the ones the network wants to have the best chance of continuing.
Also, Season 1 had 13 episodes and Season 2 had 18 episodes, but with Call Me Kat starting earlier this year, they think Season 3 will have even more episodes than before.
With this news, Jeopardy! viewers believe that the decision on the new permanent host of the game show host has already been made.
And they think Ken is the one to take over for good.
“This must seal the deal for Ken to host the syndicated episodes full-time now,” wrote a Redditer.
They continued, “I suspect the production of Call Me Kat would require quite a demanding schedule if it were to resume so soon and for more episodes.
“Both parties would need to seriously rearrange schedules for Mayim to tackle both her sitcom and Jeopardy.”
Another said: “At the very least, Call Me Kat – long considered a hindrance to Mayim taking on Jeopardy! full-time work – will resume production sooner than usual.
“That probably stands in the way of his availability, as it has for several months this season.
“…If the sitcom’s renewal terms stipulated a full season order, which wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility regardless of its time slot this season, that would only make it even more unavailable for the season. next than it had been in the past year.”
“I don’t think Sony would be willing to continue with the rotating host format pending Call Me Kat’s renewal status for additional episodes or seasons,” they added.
A third noted: “With this announcement, I would be shocked if Jennings wasn’t a permanent union host.”
A fourth pointed out that in addition to Call Me Kat, Mayim is likely set to host the next celebrity Jeopardy! spin-off, which would only make it even harder for her to find time for the original.
“If Mayim will host Celebrity Jeopardy! then they will fix his recording schedule between Call Me Kat and Celebrity Jeopardy! (and maybe ToC?),” the user said.
“I felt that Ken will be hosting the majority of season 39 in the syndicated version?”
Mayim and Ken shared hosting duties following the passing of legendary host Alex Trebek in 2020.
