Driver killed in electric pole accident in Ypsilanti canton

YPSILANTI TWP., MI – A man from Van Buren Township was killed on Saturday morning when his car pulled off the road and hit a utility pole in Ypsilanti Township.
Police and rescue teams were called at 8:40 a.m. on February 27 in the Martz Road area east of Whittaker Road for a report of the single vehicle crash, according to the county sheriff’s office. from Washtenaw.
Teams arrived to find the driver, 42, who was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and the only car involved in the crash, police said.
The crash is still under investigation, but the driver is believed to be heading west on Martz Road when he crossed the center line in oncoming traffic before crashing into the electric pole and drive into the ditch on the south side of the road, police said.
Investigators are awaiting a report from the Washtenaw County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine whether a health problem, drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said.
The man’s name is withheld at this time pending notification of the next of kin. The area was closed until approximately 1:30 p.m. while police investigated the scene.
