‘Innovative on so many levels’: ABC Australia offers India special

“India now!” is an exciting, rich and entertaining all-new half hour of news, culture and politics from India and the subcontinent, from the makers of Planet America and China Tonight,” ABC TV said in a statement.
The series which will start on Monday will be hosted by Marc Fennell, an Australian journalist, author and television presenter. Fennell is co-presenter of The Feed and host of Mastermind at SBS.
Senior Australian journalist Stan Grant will do the key interviews while Avani Dias will provide the headlines from New Delhi.
According to the statement, in the first episode, comedian Amit Tandon and pediatrician Dr Shanti Raman will join the panel to examine India’s education systems and the number of migrants who are not getting the jobs they are qualified for in Australia.
“In addition, we’ll be looking at India’s growing stand-up comedy scene, and Avani Dias joins the show from New Delhi to share the latest from South Asia,” ABC TV said.
“For newcomers, long-settled migrants and anyone interested in one of the most populated and fascinating places on earth, we bring the subcontinent to you,” he added.
India has become more important than ever to Australia as the Indian diaspora is the fastest growing community. The two countries signed a historic trade agreement earlier this year, aiming to double mutual trade in five years.
“It’s groundbreaking on so many levels – a 30 minute x 6 episode series focusing on India, and the sub-continent has never been shown on Australian television,” said Ana Tiwary, the producer of the series.
“As relations with Australia continue to develop at a rapid pace and with ever-closer ties at government level, the show will be informative, always entertaining and told through the stories and people of the India and the region,” ABC said.
