As the Novak Djokovic visa debacle continues, we are responding in the most Australian way possible – taking the absolute mickey.

Australians erupted this week over the Novak Djokovic vaccine exemption scandal.

But now it has emerged that the tennis champion’s visa has been canceled and he is set to be sent back to Europe, leaving his Australian Open hopes in shambles.

Much of the fury turned into comedy gold, with Aussies and tennis fans around the world sharing hilarious memes poking fun at all of the drama.

As expected, the geniuses of Betoota lawyer came up with the laughs:

There was The simpsons full of memes:

A reference to The Sims:

A smiling Roger Federer:

And even the “support” of Djokovic fans:

European low-cost airline Ryan Air has also joined in the action, coming down at the expense of the champion.

And even God couldn’t resist putting on the boot, apparently.

While Prime Minister Scott Morrison avoided making jokes, he also took to Twitter to double down on his decision.

“Rules are rules, especially when it comes to our borders. No one is above these rules, ”he tweeted Thursday morning.

“Our strict border policies have been essential for Australia to have one of the lowest death rates in the world from Covid, we continue to be vigilant.”

Djokovic is expected to challenge the ruling in courts in Victoria, amid reports that three other players with exemptions similar to Djokovic’s have already entered the country without incident.

Meanwhile, the mystery remains around Djokovic’s initial exemption, which is required of unvaccinated people.

He was believed to be relying on the fact that he had had Covid within the past six months, while some reports suggest that a member of Djokovic’s team may have completed the wrong visa application for him, which does not apply to people who have been vaccinated. derogations.
