Sydney and Newcastle’s closest neighbor, the Central Coast, is set to fly its rainbow flag again, when the annual Coastal Twist LGBTQIA+ arts and culture festival returns after a two-year absence, in due to closures.
Coastal Twist is back with more surprises, excitement and fun – not to mention some of the biggest headliners to date.
Taking place over seven days and seven nights, Coastal Twist takes place a 75-minute drive from Sydney – at Umina Beach, Woy Woy and Ettalong Beach.
“Celebrating diversity in a region is so important to the continued visibility, morale and growth of our region and our communities,” said festival director Glitta Supernova.
“We are absolutely thrilled to see things reopening, people enjoying the outdoors and having fun enjoying the arts and the Coastal Twist Festival has it all. We want to encourage all of our neighbors to come visit, support local and regional New South Wales as much as you do, so this is a win, a win for the Central Coast, for fair communities, for fun and for celebrations , it’s more than time to smile and enjoy the good things in life.
This year’s festival brings Australian electronic music duo Electric Fields to the Central Coast for the first time ever. They combine modern electronic soul music with ancient native culture. Plus, straight from “RuPaul’s Drag Race Down Under,” Etcetera Etcetera, and internationally acclaimed puppet innovators Erth also make appearances.

There’s DJ Jonny Seymour, international circus icon Empress Shah, Melbourne burlesque villain Ruby Slippers and a comedic showcase from Kweens Of Comedy. There will be more local and national LGBTQIA+ artists and musicians.
This year, Coastal Twist is also expanding its community programs, benefiting LGBTQIA+ youth, seniors and all abilities with Auslan through events in accessible spaces. Festival highlights include ‘The Love Club Cabaret’, ‘The Futurismo Surrealist Dance Party’, ‘The Rainbow Youth Teens Dance Party’ and the biggest free community and family events like the ‘Life’s A Beach’ Beach Party Picnic. and the coast. Twist’s centerpiece ‘Coastie Carnie Fair Day’, the latter featuring all-day entertainment, markets, food, drag story time and the Pupparazzi Puppy Parade.
Coastal Twist takes place at Umina Beach, Woy Woy and Ettalong Beach (Central Coast NSW) from September 27 to October 3.
