Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau will take place this year in virtual form. In recent months, the organizing committee has been waiting for an announcement that would allow the festival to take place in its traditional form in the center of Dolgellau, Gwynedd, after having had to postpone the annual festival last year due to Covid- 19.
Due to the current situation regarding the pandemic, the organizers have decided to hold a different but innovative festival to celebrate the tradition of folk music in Wales and beyond, following the success of their virtual festival in 2020.
Therefore, participants are invited to celebrate by subscribing to a diverse set of high-quality musical, literary and humorous sessions over the weekend of July 16-18. This year’s Sesiwn will be in digital format, but will still be based on âliveâ performances by artists from Wales and beyond.
Guto Lewys Dafydd, committee chair Dolgellau Sesiwn Fawr explains: âIt has been an uncertain time for us as organizers. Having postponed last year’s event, we were obviously looking forward to inviting everyone to come back to Dolgellau this year to celebrate, but we have to take into account the health and well-being of the residents as well as our supporters and volunteers. So we are organizing a virtual festival again this year and show our support to our artists.
Ywain Myfyr, Festival Secretary, said: âWe are happy to be able to adapt our plans for Sesiwn Fawr and provide entertainment in these uncertain times. If circumstances permit, we look forward to welcoming our audience back to Dolgellau in 2022, which also falls on the 30th of the festival.e anniversary.”
The latest information will be posted on Sesiwn Fawr’s website and social media.
