- Willan won for his pilot script Alma’s Not Normal. A full series of the sitcom is currently being filmed
Sophie Willan won the Comedy Writing Award at the 2021 BAFTA Craft Awards, for her pilot screenplay Alma’s Not Normal.
Airing in April 2020, Alma’s Not Normal follows Alma Nuthall, the Boltonian wild child, and her family of eccentric and unruly women. A full series is currently being filmed and will air on BBC Two later this year.
The results were revealed in an online video feed. Willan was watching alongside his co-star Jayde Adams and fellow comedian Jonny Pelham. Adams captured the moment Willan found out she had won:

Other nominees in the comedy writing category were Charlie Brooker (for Charlie Brooker’s Antiviral Wipe), Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper (This Country) and Team Ghosts.
