Stock up on nostalgic TV classics on Tubi
LOS ANGELES – More and more people are watching older TV comedies than newer shows amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic because it is making viewers nostalgic, according to Nielsen.
At the start of the pandemic, millions of people were forced to stay at home and enjoy TV entertainment so as not to go crazy – and many of those people resorted to older TV comedies.

“While many Americans have turned to their funny old favorites in 2020, it was not a successful year for the comedy genre as a whole. In fact, viewing of the comedy has declined 9% over time. ‘nationwide compared to 2019, “Nielsen said in a March press release.
Despite the overall decline in interest in comedy television, Nielsen data shows a significant increase in viewership when it comes to older comedy shows such as “Friends,” which saw an increase of 30. % between 2019 and 2020, and classics such as “The Andy Griffith Show” which saw a 29% increase in viewership in the same time frame.
“While the comedy genre is still popular, viewing of the comedy over the past year points to a resurgence of nostalgia comedy programming, particularly shows featuring various cast and cast,” said Nielsen.
