Although we live in these frankly earlier times, we also fully exist in the future. And a futuristic lifestyle calls for a modern take on our tradition.”Follow Friday” column. At Vulture, we’ve moved on from our Luddite ways, opting for a more interactive digital angle to what was once just text on a webpage. We want you to get to know our favorite comics, writers, and funny social media presences face-to-face (or at least screen-to-screen). So we hope you enjoy our new and improved version of “Follow Friday”, based on Instagram Live.

This week, I did a terrible job hiding my nerves in a digital chat with the incredibly lovable Tim Heidecker (Working hours, At the movie theater, speaking truth to power across the media landscape) about hats, intellectual property and confusion. He gave his fans some sage advice on how to give him unsolicited advice, shared his thoughts on a TikTok lip-syncing trend that uses his voice, and described his journey to realizing he’s not not a hat guy. He also addressed a recent onstage statement that could ultimately spell the end of his career: “I mean, I took a stand, which no one else does. I took a stand and said it was time for Putin to step down. And obviously it’s controversial,” Heidecker bravely explained. “We have the big tech companies attacking us and they don’t want us to tell the truth. So we’ll see – hopefully there won’t be any repercussions against me and my family. But I have to be myself.
