Turia Pitt back for more hard work

Turia Pitt will continue to share his wisdom and explore the stories of others in the second season of his LiSTNR podcast series, Turia Pitt works hard.

After sustaining burns to 65% of her body after being trapped in a grass fire during an ultra-marathon, Pitt became a bestselling author, respected humanitarian, extreme athlete and motivational speaker.

Pitt will return for another season to unpack and explore the stories behind others’ narratives of emerging from adversity. Mediaweek’s Trent Thomas caught up with Pitt to discuss the show’s new season.

“I really enjoyed talking to people and having these really deep, honest conversations with people about something really difficult,” Pitt explained. “That this person was Kurt Fearnley talk about their experience as a wheelchair racer and being an advocate for people with disabilities, or Linda Burney who is the MP for Barton in Canberra, who is an aboriginal woman and has had so many great ideas and things that she is trying to achieve. I just like talking to these kinds of people, I find them really interesting and fascinating and I try to see the parallels between the stories.

The new season will include guests such as Osher Gunsberg, Jelena Dokic, Kurt Fearnley, Jazz Thornton, Benji Marshall, and Linda Burney. Pitt said the main criteria for his guests were the people he was interested in.

“Somebody who’s done something hard, whether it’s something hard they chose or something hard they didn’t choose. And making sure that we also have a diverse range of ‘guests.

When asked what the main draw was to returning for another season, Pitt said she had several reasons why she wanted to do it again.

“If you like something and you get good feedback and comments, it makes sense to keep doing it. I’m really proud to have had really amazing feedback and I love having D’s and M’s with really interesting people.

Discussing how she got better as a podcast host, Pitt said she got better in the process of creating a show.

“I was probably a bit stuffy or trying to create biases where there might not have been any, it could have been a really great story and really compelling content to listen to.”

Asked about the show’s future, Pitt said she wanted to make sure it continues to meet the needs of its audience.

“Just keep making sure we’re giving the public what they want and what’s going to help them in their day-to-day lives. If people listen to an interview, and if they’re going through a tough time at home, and it makes their day better and gives them a new perspective on things, then that’s great for me.
