This list will be updated frequently as more drivers are announced and chosen.

Pilot season is upon us, which means broadcast networks are taking stock of their needs for the 2022-23 TV season and moving things forward to fill in the gaps. With things about to happen really interesting – it’s time to throw stars in these budding hits! — TVLine presents its annual roundup of who’s planning what, as well as our guide to the lingo that’s tossed around.

For easy access: Review the list of pilots for ABC, CBS, The CW, Fox and NBC, and we invite you to bookmark this constantly updated page for the very latest information.

PILOT | When a network orders a pilot, it asks its writers/producers/studios to cast and produce a very close facsimile of the first episode of a series. Each pilot is reviewed by network officials and then usually tested before its fate is decided. (A “put the driver” has a higher probability of “going to the series”, because there is a significant financial penalty if he does not.)

SPILLOVER PLANTED | Also called a “backdoor” driver, this is an episode of an existing series that sets up a prospective offshoot. (See: Arrowin the episode “Green Arrow and the Canaries”.) Retro history lesson: Brady’s Bunch episode with neighbor Ken Berry adopting three different boys? It was an unfortunate planted pilot, for a spin-off that was to be called Kelly’s children.)

DRAMA/COMEDY PRESENTATION | Due to time or budget constraints, a network sometimes does not order a full pilot, but a shorter “pitch” that gives an idea of what a drama or sitcom would look like.

CAST-QUANTITY | Sometimes a network orders a pilot with the caveat that filming can’t begin until a suitable actor (read: “name”) has been cast in the lead role. (Translation: “The premise is uncertain, but a star could sell to us. So you’ll sometimes hear that with the casting of such and such, “the casting contingency was lifted” on a pilot.

SECOND POST | AKA, the two words that make fans of “bubble” shows extremely anxious each spring, as stars of low-rated series begin booking pilots (provided they get the OK from their current bosses). The term literally means a pilot role is second/priority if their show is renewed. The fact that an actor has booked a concert in “second position” does not mean always means his current show is doomed… but it usually is. Variation: A “safe secondmeans pilot bosses have been quietly assured that the actor will be be available.

ADVANTAGES | The week in mid-May where the networks take turns revealing their schedules for next season — including which pilots have been ordered to series. With rare exceptions, if your show doesn’t make the cut here, you’re screwed.

And now, our ongoing update of the pilots ordered for the 2022-23 TV season, network by network….
