Watch the trailer for Basketmouth’s spicy new comedy-drama “Ghana Jollof”

Showmax has released the official trailer for its first West African comedy-drama series Ghana Jollof, which premiered on Friday.

Ghana Jollof tells the searing story of two young Nigerians, Jasper (Funnybone) and Romanus (Akah Nnani), who moved to Ghana in search of greener pastures.

In the trailer, things kick off with a first meeting between Nnamdi (Uzor Arukwe, who played the dreaded crime boss Knight in Sugar Rush), Jasper (AMVCaward-winning actor / comedian Funnybone), Kweku (idol James Gardiner from Ghana’s popular telenovela Dede) and Romanus (AMAA / Youtuber nominee Akah Nnani).

Afterward, Jasper and Romanus travel to Ghana to Jollof, setting off a series of adventures and misadventures.

Produced by Nigerian King of Comedy, Basketmouth, ‘Ghana Jollof’ serves a delightful ensemble cast from Nigeria and Ghana. This includes AMAA nominee Joselyn Dumas, actress Jacinta Ocansey, Mawuli Gavor (Chief Daddy), reality TV star Portia Freelove, model and actress Brihanna Kinte.

Others are veteran actor Jackson Albert Davies (Beasts of No Nation), actress Korkor Oyeba Mensah and award-winning comedian / actor Kalybos, not to mention Basketmouth himself.

“I’ve always wanted to create something that would be a collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana, and Ghana Jollof is making that dream come true,” Basketmouth says. “From the cast to the crew, everyone went out of their way to create a show worthy of Showmax’s first West African comedy-drama. We all can’t wait for the fans to see what we’ve come up with.

“Fans can expect to see some of their favorite stars in a whole new light. We are preparing for a storm and can’t wait to share this delicious package with everyone. Ghana Jollof is here to deliver exceptional content that gives us insight into the cultures of Nigeria and Ghana.

‘Ghana Jollof’ is directed by AMVCA nominee Diji Aderogba, whose feature debut, About A Boy, won the Audience Award at Nollywood Film Week in Paris, France.

It will be available to stream across Africa and the UK. The show will have 13 episodes to devour, with new episodes every Friday.

Earlier this year, Showmax broke streaming records on Day One in Nigeria when it launched I am LAYCON, a reality show based on Big Brother Naija Season 5 winner Laycon.

He also produced the hit BBNaija-focused talk show The Buzz which was hosted by Toke Makinwa and became the second most watched show – after BBNaija – on the platform. The Real Housewives of Lagos are also set to launch as Showmax Original in early 2022.
